M. PALLEMAERTS Marc (externe)
Professor of international and European environmental law at ULB and Professor of European environmental law at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Marc is also Senior Fellow and Head of the Global Issues and External Action Research Programme at the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), a non-profit think tank with offices in London and Brussels. His special subjects of research interest are: environmental law and governance, public participation, climate change, chemicals and the EU's role in global environmental policy. Marc joined IEEP to head the Environmental Governance programme in December 2005, and is based in IEEP's Brussels office. An international lawyer and political scientist by training, he has extensive experience in academic research and teaching as well as in policy work. He has been a policy adviser to the Flemish Regional Environment Minister, to the Belgian Federal State Secretary for the Environment, and served as Deputy Chef de Cabinet to the Federal State Secretary for Energy and Sustainable Development from 1999 to 2003. During the Belgian Presidency of the EU in 2001, he chaired the EU Council working party responsible for the climate change negotiations and acted as lead negotiator for the Presidency at COP6bis (Bonn) and COP7 (Marrakech). From 2003 to 2005, he was chairman the Meeting of the Parties to the Aarhus Convention. Before joining IEEP, Marc was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for European Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (IES-VUB).
Marc Pallemaerts assure l'enseignement en droit international et europeen de l’environnement au sein de la Faculte de Droit et de Criminologie et de l’Institut d’études europeennes (IEE). Il a enseigné les aspects juridiques de l'environnement au sein du Master en Sciences et Gestion de l'Environnement de l'IGEAT jusqu’en 2010. Certaines de ses activités de recherche sont localisées au Centre d'Etudes du Développement Durable, dont il est l’un des directeurs adjoints. Son activité principale se situe à l'IEEP et a l’Université d’Amsterdam.
