Domain of activity
My PhD research was focused on a reconceptualization of sustainable development. From the one hand, the thesis is interested in the field of Human Development which is structured around the work of Amartya Sen (the Capability Approach) and Manfred Max-Neef (the Fundamental Needs approach). On the other hand, the thesis is interested in the field of Ecological Economics from which emerges a strong conception of sustainability as well as the concepts of ecosystem functions and services. The thesis aims to establish a link between these two fields of research to shift from sustainable development, a relatively ambiguous concept, to responsible human development clearly rooted in strong sustainability and social justice. This articulation is carried out in a transdisciplinary perspective with case stdies in two peri-urban biosphere reserves in France and Chile (Unesco MAB programm).

My post-doc research, at the theoritical level tries to bring further this integration between Ecol Econ and Human Development in order to build a suitable theoritical framework for thinking and assessing transition toward sustainability. On a more empirical level, my research focuses on developing theoritical and methodological frameworks to advance non-monetary valuation of ecosystem services at the local scale in a perspective of socio-environmental justice. To do so, I use the capability and fundamental human needs approaches.
Research interests:
Capability approach, strong sustainability, ecosystem services, collective agency, transdisciplinarity, action-research, sustainability science, ecological economics, environmental justice, sustainable land-planning, social and solidarity economy
